Fieldwork Broken Heroes

Well, here we go. My first blog review. I've actually reviewed close to 4000 beers on other various sites. Fieldwork Brewing is a great Bay Area local brewery with about 6 different brewpubs. They recently opened an open-air outdoor venue in San Mateo about 2 miles down the road from me. It's hard not heading down there on a regular basis because they make a new beer literally every day. It's the first real hot day we have had in the Bay Area besides that weird ass week in February where it hit 80 a couple days. So, it's a perfect night for a nice New England style IPA.

Pour is as expected. Looks like a muddled off orange clouded color. Head retention was fine even after sitting in the growler that was opened last night.

Nose is serious. Scents of grapefruit, orange rind and maybe a hint of lime. I'm also detecting a touch of vinegar as well. It's got a lot going for it. No need to hunt for the nose.

Taste follows in line with the scent. Flavors aren't as sharp and rind-like as in the nose. Orange is forefront in the taste. Maybe some peaches as well. A nice sweetness abounds. The hazy style typically isn't as bitter as the west coast style and this follows suit. Really nice fruit basket of flavor with a sprinkle of powdered sugar.

Mouthfeel is pretty coating. It's pretty beefy for an IPA at 7%, but wasn't expecting the thickness. I guess they were going for that Orange Julius vibe which many breweries are pushing to do. Looks like OJ, let's make it taste and feel like it too.

Overall it's one of the better New England style IPA's I've had from Fieldwork or regardless of the brewer. This one hits the spot on a nice warm evening. If only my Warriors could hit a basket :(

Fieldwork Broken Heroes, New England IPA, 7%, Mosaic and Enigma hops.
